These mallets are great. They sound great for ragtime. The rubber does wear quickly, so I have had to replace it, but I have not heard any mallet that sounds better for ragtime.

Sincerely for me make me can play everything,excerpts,scales,arpeggios whith control of velocity,dinamics, rebound,Best by far than famous or39,thin Rattan,i Say all these,without the rubber bands!!!!!,i repeat search in the Market by yourself,they sound bright ,great mallets.

Good in theory... but not worth it.

Love the idea of these mallets. Beautiful sound. Feel a bit light for me, making them more suited to solo or small ensemble. Unfortunately the rubber wore away from glissandos, so would have to agree with other reviews here. Surely xylophone mallets would be designed with glissandos and a bit of wear-and-tear in mind??? Well... perhaps not in this case. Pretty disappointing that a huge stick maker has not tried to improve materials recently. The idea of putting rubber over mallets must be getting close to 100 years old now. No discredit to that at all, but mallets should be more versatile and robust in the 21st Century. Only the Becker Blues do it for me with Malletech xylophone mallets. Other sounds and articulations = other stick makers.

nice mallet w/o the rubber bit

Agree w/ previous reviewer - the rubber things come off and can't be put back on easily... but it's a nicer mallet without them - very similar to the classic becker blue's but a shade harder. So it's a fail on the "two tone" concept, but a good general xylo mallet once you take the rubber bands off.

Good idea, but problems

I purchased these mallets for my paduak xylo. I play in an orchestra pit where I'm completely surrounded by concrete, so regular rosewood mallets sound too harsh. I liked these because they do have 2 tones and they're lighter than other comparable rubber mallets I have. The problem is THE RUBBER COVERS COME OFF with normal play and are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to put back on. I actually ripped a hole in one covering trying to put it back on. I've also noticed that there are hard spots where the rubber is uneven. This may have happened from replacing the rubber, but I can't tell which ones I've had to put back. Would I purchase these again? NO, but I may try to superglue the covers on the ones I have before dismissing the idea completely. Why don't they come secured?
